How To Get To Know Jesus

Becoming A Christian

Entering a relationship with the God that created the world is an awesome privilege.  God loves you and He showed it by sending His only Son, Jesus Christ into the world so that through Him, we might be restored into a right relationship with God.

You know the story, God said, "let there be light."  Then He created the heaven's, the earth, and all that is in them.  Finally on the 6th day He created Man and Woman, Adam and Eve, and placed them in the most perfect place in the whole universe - The garden of Eden.

God created Adam with a free will, the opportunity to choose to live how he wanted and to make choices.  God told Adam, he could eat from any tree in the Garden, except the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.  Adam had the choice to obey God and not eat from the tree or to disobey and eat.  Adam made the wrong choice, he and Eve ate from the tree.  At that moment, sin entered into the world.  Adam took on a nature that would be passed from him down to every human being ever born - the nature to sin, to choose wrong.

This nature is evident in the life of every young child.  No one teaches your child to do wrong, to lie, to take things, to disobey, but it is their nature.  You have it as well.  I don't have to convince you that you have said things you wish later you would not have said, or done things you wish you could undo.  All those bad choices are sin.

God is perfect, everything about Him is perfect.  Heaven, the place where God resides is perfect.  Since God is perfect, when we sin our relationship with Him is severed.  No imperfect thing can be in the presence of God.  Therefore, you and I have a problem.  We are sinners and sinners are not allowed in heaven.

That is why Jesus came.  The Bible teaches that the payment for sin is death.  In order for us to get to heaven, someone had to pay the price.  Jesus did just that.  Jesus was God, come down to earth in the form of a human being.  He was born of a virgin, lived a perfect life for 33 years - He never sinned, and He willingly gave His life when He died on a cross.  His death became the payment for your sin!  He paid what you could never pay.

They placed Jesus' body in the grave, but on the 3rd day He arose from the dead.  History records (not just the Bible) that hundreds, maybe even thousands of people saw Jesus alive after He died on the cross, three days before.

Then others stood and watched as Jesus ascended back up to Heaven several days later.

What does all this mean to you?  It means that because Jesus died to pay the price for your sin and because He arose, defeating death and the grave, that you can - through His death and resurrection come back into a right relationship with God.

How do you do that?  Look at the simple explanation of the ABC's on the right.

The ABC's Of Knowing Jesus

A - Admit that you are a sinner and you need Jesus to save you.

For all have sinned ... Romans 3:23

B - Believe Jesus is God's Son, that He died on the cross to pay for your sin, and that He arose from the grave.

If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
Romans 10:9-10
C - Commit your life to Him.  Ask Him to be the Master or Manager of your life.

He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.
2 Corinthians 5:15

The most simple way to do the ABC's is to pray to God a prayer something like this:

Dear God, I admit that I am a sinner and I recognize I need you to save me.  I believe that Jesus was Your Son, that He died to pay for my sin, and that He did rise from the grave.

I ask you to forgive me and I commit my life to you.  I want you to be the manager of my life.

Thank you for saving me. In Jesus Name, Amen.

If you prayed that prayer for the very first time, you need to tell somebody!  We would love to be the first you tell.  You can write us an e-mail and we will send you a booklet to help you understand your decision and help you begin your walk with God!
